Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures

The department congratulates Ph.D. candidate Dan Medford on his promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army on Nov. 1, 2023.  Dan (Lt. Col. Medford!) has served in the US Army Special Forces and received his MAT from the IU Slavic department in 2017, then went on to teach Russian at West Point. He began his doctoral studies in the department in August of 2023 and is specializing in language pedagogy and linguistics. After completing his Ph.D., Dan will return to West Point as a senior faculty member in the Department of Foreign Languages. Dan recently presented on his professional and education journey at the IU Slavic and East European Career Night in October.
